Which service fits your roof?
Start with what is actually wrong. If the roof is sound but leaking in one spot, you probably need a roof repair. If the roofing material itself is failing, rust through the steel or tiles crumbling underfoot, you are looking at re-roofing, and the material decides whether that is metal roof replacement, tile roof replacement or a move to Colorbond roofing.
If a storm has done the damage, begin with emergency roof replacement to get the house dry, then insurance roof replacement for the claim. Owners and managers of warehouses, shops, offices and strata buildings should see commercial roof replacement.
What every job has in common
Whatever the service, the process starts the same way. A contractor inspects the roof and, where they can, the roof space. They photograph what they find and explain it. The quote that follows is written and itemised, so you can see what is included and compare it with any other quote.
- No pressure. The inspection and quote are free, and you decide whether to go ahead.
- A clear scope. Strip-out, battens, blanket or sarking, flashings, gutters, disposal and safety equipment should all be visible on the quote.
- Paperwork. We ask the contractors we work with to hold the licences and insurance the job needs. In Queensland the QBCC licenses roofing contractors; ask to see a licence before work starts.
- Asbestos handled properly. On older houses the contractor checks for asbestos cement and, if it is present, a licensed removalist does that part.
